Our History

Barwon Youth  (BAYSA Ltd.) was established in 1981 in response to the burgeoning numbers of young people from the Barwon Region being held in metropolitan Melbourne Youth Training Centres.  As part of the deinstitutionalization strategy of the government of the day significant efforts to reintergrate young people to their own communities commenced.   A fully staffed youth hostel (Lismore House) was established in Geelong via state government funds with a view to broaden the model to a local Youth Support Service. The twenty-five year period to 2006 has seen an expansion of service delivery following successful submissions to state and commonwealth governments, philanthropic organisations and private donations.

Barwon Youth is the largest youth specific agency in the region having partnerships with many alike agencies from Geelong to Portland in the Barwon South West area of Victoria.  Many of these partnerships entail co-location of staff within alike agencies in regional centres.

Accreditation Two significant events occurred in 2006 which coincided with our 25 year celebration
